Our Staff

Addy Schmitt is both Chair of the Executive Committee and Chair of the Scholarship Committee. In the latter role, she and her Committee members review applications, interview applicants and, ultimately, identify the Abramson Scholars who, like Name receive the Foundation’s financial and mentoring support.

Our Commitment

Aaron Jenkins is Chair of the Mentoring Committee and, in that capacity oversees those professionals, some young and some seasoned, who volunteer to serve as listeners, advisors, cheerleaders and friends to the Abramson Scholars. He and his mentors help ensure that the Scholars have “someone in their corner” as they negotiate the challenges of college life.

Frank Fleming (Hospitality) majors in Business Hospitality and Tourism Management at James Madison Uni-versity. As he prepares for graduation in the spring, Frank is expanding on his already formidable practical experience in his field. Over the summer, he worked at the Embassy Suites Convention Center Hotel in Washington.

Michelle Brown (McKinley Tech), a junior at Virginia Commonwealth University, describes herself as living in the library. Nonetheless, she takes great satisfaction in having learned to manage her time well – particularly with regard to her study schedule.

Sharnita Brice (Wilson) is a junior at Towson majoring in Family Studies. She finds that Biology is this term’s most challenging class. In previous years, Sharnita spent a great deal of time engaged in competitive cheer-leading. This year, however, a back injury has sidelined her. As a consequence, she has had more time to spend doing community service on campus.

Darryl Robinson (Cesar Chavez ) is a freshman at Georgetown. He is working at a job on campus to help pay his expenses, and, in his pursuit of academic excellence, he has "joined every tutoring group possible."

So far it’s been going great! I’ve met so many great people and my professors are all super nice! I joined the environmental club, the drama club, Lion Ambassadors and THON. THON is a student organization at Penn State which raises money for kids with cancer. Last year the school was able to raise $10 million dollars!

A freshman at Clemson, has plunged into an impressively wide array of classes – Math, English, Engineering, Religion, History, and Sociology! "I’m making it work and enjoying every bit of my college life!"

A freshman at George Washington, is taking a challenging class in Anatomy and Physiology. She humorously observes, "Personally, 'head, shoulders, knees, and toes,' worked perfectly fine for me, but apparently, my professor cares about a whole lot more."
Omotayo Aweda  
"Things are go-ing great!" She is taking Caribbean History, Statistics, College Writing and Communications in a Global Age. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys Gospel Choir, InterVarsity and Thursday night Bible Studies.

    Frederick B Abramson was a distinguished member of the Washington legal community. He was a private practitioner who served as President of the District of Columbia Bar and Bar Counsel to the Board of Professional Responsibility of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.   • Named Scholarships

    A named scholarship offers the opportunity for an organization or individual to sponsor a scholar for all four years of his or her college education. The Abramson Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce that in 2012 it will award its first CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Scholarship to a scholar intent on focusing his or her education in a healthcare or other science-based field of study.
